Science Hall and Chemical Engineering Building

The first Medical School was called the "Attic Medical School" because classes were held in the attics of Science Hall and the old Chemical Engineering Building. The two-year medical curriculum was the basic sciences and then students finished their education at other medical schools. Science Hall was built in 1875 and is still located at 550 N. Park St. Chemical Engineering, which was built in 1885, was torn down for the Helen C. White Building, located at 600 N. Park St.

South Hall

Located on Bascom Hill, it housed the Pharmacy School

from 1883 to 1889, when the school moved to North Hall.

University Clinical Building

Beginning In 1912, this house was used for administration, laboratories, diagnosis and treatment rooms. Each doctor had two connecting rooms, so a patient could be getting ready while the doctor was with another patient. The house was no longer used when the infirmary was built.

Student Infirmary

Located at 445 N. Randall St., it officially opened in 1919 but was used by patients during the great influenza epidemic in 1918-1919. This building and the Bradley Memorial Hospital were the first building erected specifically for clinical purposes.

Wisconsin Orthopedic Hospital for Children

Located at 1415 Linden Dr., it was built in 1930.

McArdle Cancer Research Building

Located at 1400 University Ave. It's former official address was 450 N. Randall St. It was completed in 1964.

William S. Middleton Health Sciences Library

Built in 1965, it was located at 1305 Linden Dr. The Medical Library moved to the Health Sciences Learning Center in 2004.

Clinical Science Center

Located at 600 Highland Ave. The move-in began Nov. 1977 and was completed in 1979. Occupants: University Hospital and Clinics; UW School of Nursing; UW Medical School, Clinical Science Departments; the Wisconsin Clinical Cancer Center; and the Frank L. Weston Clinical Science Center Library.

Health Sciences Learning Center

The building was completed in 2004 for the purpose of classroom instruction and clinical skills training for the UW medical and nursing schools. It also houses the Ebling Health Sciences Library and administrative/academic offices.
